Mumbai, 19th April 2018: Natio nal Film Development Corporation (NFDC) today unveiled the first look of its latest release Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain. Directed by Harish Vyas, the film stars Sanjay Mishra, Ekavali Khanna and Pankaj Tripathi in lead roles and is slated for a pan-India theatrical release on 18th May 2018.
Angrezi Mein Kehte Hai is a quirky film, set in rustic Varanasi and boasts of real-life characters and situations one can relate to, especially for those who are or have ever been in love. Presented by NFDC and produced by Manav Malhotra of Drumroll Pictures in association with Bunty Khan’s Shiny Entertainment,
The event was attended by director Harish Vyas and actors Sanjay Mishra, Ekavali Khanna, Shivani Raghuvanshi and Anshuman Jha.
The film is a unique tale of romance that depicts the lives of three ordinary couples who have very distinct views on what love stands for.
Yashwant Batra (Sanjay Mishra) is a 52-year-old, post office employee who takes his wife Kiran (Ekavali Khanna) and their relationship for granted. But an unexpected decision taken by Kiran forces Yashwant to rekindle their jaded relationship. Their daughter Preeti’s (Shivani Raghuvanshi) youthful and expressive romance with the happy go lucky Jugnu (Anshuman Jha) is also instrumental in prompting Yashwant to mend his past ways. And then there is the pair of Feroze (Pankaj Tripathi) and Suman (Ipsita Chokroberty), an inter-caste couple, whose love for each other during trying circumstances is inspirational.
The film is written by Harish Vyas, while the screenplay and dialogues are penned by Harish Vyas and Aryan Saha.
Thematically, Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain the love story is unlike the previous films nurtured by NFDC, which has played a pivotal role in bringing some of the best and promising independent Indian films to audiences such as The Lunchbox, Qissa Titli and oth ers.
Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain was an official selection at the South Asian International Film Festival 2017 where it won the Audience Award for Best Film. It has also won awards for Best Feature Film and Best Director among others at the Five Continents International Film Festival 2017, Venezuela.
The music of the film has been composed by Praveen Kuwar, Oni-Adil and Ranjan Sharma and renowned lyricist Yogesh Gaur (Anand, Baaton Baaton Mein, Chhoti Si Baat) who after a long hiatus has penned the lyrics for this film.
The film’s technical team includes cinematographer Faroukh Mistry (Rahasya) and National Award-winning editor Suresh Pai (Ankhon Dekhi, Mithya).
Actor Sanjay Mishra present at the event says, “The common man gets bogged down by the daily realities of life and love takes a backseat. Yashwant’s character conveys this thought in a very succinct way with his dialogue that says ‘Yeh ghar chalati hai…mein d aftar jaata hoon. Yahi pyaar hai.’ What’s your definition of love?”
Harish Vyas, the director of Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain says, “It’s a romantic film. I wanted to address this side of romance that is subdued and wrapped in the fine nuances of the daily grind. Romance in India is usually depicted through the youth but it’s not limited to them, in this case, it is depicted by the younger couple like always but is instrumental in vocalizing the unexpressed love in all generations other than ‘the young’. Sanjay Ji was the only person I had in mind to play this character for the kind of value he has brought to the character of Yashwant Batra.”
